Cougar Prowl 24-Hour Ultra Track Race Rules

Welcome to the Blackhawk High School 24-Hour Ultra Track Race! Please read the following rules carefully to ensure a safe, fair, and fun experience for all participants.

General Race Rules (Applies to All Participants)

  1. Duration: The race begins at 9am on July 26 and ends exactly 24 hours later. Only laps completed within the 24-hour time frame will be counted.

  2. Track Direction: Direction of travel will change every 4 hours.

  3. Lap Counting: Laps will be counted via chip timing and/or manual counters. It is your responsibility to ensure your laps are being recorded.

  4. Conduct: Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Unsportsmanlike behavior (verbal abuse, littering, interfering with other runners, etc.) may result in disqualification.

  5. Safety: The infield and track will be monitored by volunteers and staff. Please report any injuries or concerns immediately.

  6. Lighting: The track will be lit during nighttime hours. Headlamps are optional but recommended.

Individual Participants

  1. Solo Effort: Individuals may take breaks as needed but must resume on their own. No assistance is allowed on the track.

  2. Resting: Individuals may rest in designated areas or their own tent space if arranged, but all mileage must be completed on the track.

Team Participants

  1. Team Size: Teams may consist of up to 6 members.

  2. Relay Format: Only one team member may be on the track at a time. Teams may change runners at any time, but exchanges must happen in the designated area.

  3. Tent Space: Each team will be assigned a 10’ x 10’ tent space on the field. Teams are responsible for bringing and setting up their own tents.

  4. Tent Rules:

    • No open flames or cooking devices.

    • No stakes are permitted—tents must be weighted down with sandbags, water jugs, or similar.

    • No pets are allowed on the field or track.

  5. Behavior: Team members not running must remain in their tent space or spectator areas and must not obstruct the track or other teams.

Prohibited Items/Actions

  • No alcohol, drugs, or tobacco are permitted anywhere on school grounds.

  • No pets are permitted.

  • No open flames (including fire pits, grills, or camp stoves).

  • No motorized or wheeled devices (except wheelchairs or mobility aids).

Awards & Recognition

In-Person Participants

  • Individual Awards

  • Top 3 Male Finishers

  • Top 3 Female Finishers

  • Middle-of-the-Pack Male Finisher – Closest to the median mileage among all male participants

  • Middle-of-the-Pack Female Finisher – Closest to the median mileage among all female participants

  • Team Awards

  • Top 3 Teams – Based on most laps completed

  • Middle-of-the-Pack Team Finisher – Closest to the median mileage among all team participants

Note: Awards will be given at the conclusion of the race. You must be present to receive your award.

Additional Information

  • Check-In: All participants must check in at registration before setting up or beginning the race.

  • Clean-Up: Please clean up your area before leaving. Leave no trace!
